First trip to Chicago and plan to take in a few blues clubs, looking for something that may have good entertainment with no cover charge in the downtown area.

You can do a blues club search at - http://www.chicagoreader.com/
Buddy Guys Legends and Blue Chicago are downtown. You%26#39;re going to have to go to late afternoon sets at most clubs to avoid a cover charge.

Unfortunately, you%26#39;re going to have to pay a cover at almost all downtown clubs.
Buddy Guy%26#39;s only has music at night, and the cover is $10 Sun - Thurs or $15 on Fri %26amp; Sat.
Blue Chicago has two locations. The cover is $8 Sun - Thur and $10 Fri %26amp; Sat, and one cover is good for both locations.
You can listen to jazz for free at Andy%26#39;s Jazz at lunch on Fridays. The cover charge varies at night from $5 - $20.
Pops Jazz Club has a $10 cover Tues - Thurs and $15 on Fri %26amp; Sat.
Underground Wonder Bar has jazz starting ~8pm and lasting until 3:30am. Cover is $8 Sun - Thurs and $8 until 9pm on Fri %26amp; Sat, and $15 after 9.

Thanks, where there is a cover charge, would this be local talent or jam session. My idea was to drop into a few places, hear a set or so then move on.

You don%26#39;t see too many jam sessions downtown. They are usually found in the neighborhood joints. The rent%26#39;s more expensive downtown and that%26#39;s why you%26#39;ll most always have a cover charge. The best music lisitings are found at chicagoreader.com.
