Best mode of travel from city to nascar race in joliet

First time in Chicago- Have been doing lots of research, But need advice. Have tix for Busch race on Sat July 14 at 2:30 pm in Joliet. Will have car in Chicago for weekend -Do you recommend driving to track (SHOWS 1 HR.BY MAPQUEST) or taking Metra (2-2 1/2 HR) or CTA bus/train ( 2 HRS)? from Homewood Suites on Grand Ave. I did trip plan from RTA -But do not know as a visitor which would be best or most reliable. Am planning on getting a 3day Go Chicago Card - Do you recommend getting a Metra weekend pass %26amp;/or CTA pass? Have not yet researched tix for Cubs game on Fri or Sun - tix hard to get or available thru their website? Traffic sounds rough-coming in from the south by way of 94 on Thurs at dinner time? should we just plan on traffic on the Dan Ryan Xway or come up by the lake rd? THANK YOU-

Mapquest doesn%26#39;t allow for the traffic as you get close to the track. Do you want the convenience of having your car there? Otherwise, you%26#39;re at the mercy of the Metra train schedule. Trains don%26#39;t run as often on the weekends.

A CTA visitor pass is a great deal. You can order them ahead of time. Free shipping. Depending on how many people are in your group, the Metra pass might work for you.

Traffic on the Ryan will be rough due to the construction. Listen to AM 780 as you get close to the city. Traffic reports every 10 minutes.

If you can%26#39;t get Cubs tickets on their web site, try stubhub.com.

Take the Skyway (I-90) from I-65, then get off at the Stony Island exit. After a couple of miles follow the signs to Lake Shore Drive. There will still be traffic at rush hour, but you get to drive by the Museum of Science %26amp; Industry, and the view of the skyline as you%26#39;re coming into the city is phenomenal! (I go to Indianapolis every couple of months and Stony Island is much faster.)

The Skyway is kind of expensive - I think it%26#39;s around $3 total - but the view and the time savings is worth it. (Except for the stretch through Gary and the steel mills, which get a bit stinky.)

It is a question of whether or not you need your car. I%26#39;d recommend the Metra, especially if you plan on drinking at the track. Plus you%26#39;re allowed to eat and drink on Metra, but not on the CTA. The Metra weekend pass is only $5, and you can get a two-day CTA pass for $9. I%26#39;d recommend getting both and you can travel as much as you want.

Why are you telling him to take the Skyway etc to get to Joliet from the city? He%26#39;s coming from the Homewood Suites downtown.

Those were the answers i needed. i wanted to come in to chicago by way of lake shore dr.-but didn%26#39;t know if it was a bad idea. then really just wanted to park the car for the weekend - but didn%26#39;t know if metra was reliable to get to %26amp; from the track re: being on time, etc. you both have been a great help - thanks so much!!!

You%26#39;re welcome Luvsracing!

Dave148 - he%26#39;d asked two separate questions, and I answered them both, I just answered them in the reverse order (the order he%26#39;d be using them in, not the way they were asked). Sorry for any confusion that may have caused.
