We are staying at the Peninsula for a business meeting in early June. Are there interesting restaurants nearby that we can get to easily? We have had several good meals at Trotter%26#39;s in the past and would like to try others along the same vein, but because of our meeting schedules are hoping to not have to make a trek. We have also enjoyed the cooking style at Salpicon in the past. We have heard of Alinea; is it nearby? Any other that you could recommend? Thank you very much in advance for your help.
Suggestions for restaurants near the Peninsula?
Alinea is a short cab ride from the Peninsula. www.alinea-restaurant.com
Also consider Naha. www.naha-chicago.com. A leisurely walk from your hotel.

Stay at the hotel and try Avenues. It is an interesting mix in style between Charlie Trotter%26#39;s and Alinea.
Alinea is about the same distance as Charlie Trotter%26#39;s (they are a few blocks apart). Absolutely incredible food, but getting there can be a hassle at rush hour (there is no good way to get there -- North Ave, and Halsted both have heavy traffic in the early evening).
In the immediate area of the Pen, I also recommend Kevin, Naha, and NoMi.
Honestly, skip all that high falutin neuveu american fair and walk across the street to Rosebud%26#39;s. It is a chicago classic that will not dissapoint. Delicious and exciting Italian food.
If you like Charlie Trotter%26#39;s, you will not like Rosebud.
Rosebud is place to go to carbo-load before a marathon. It provides a lot of food. The food is acceptable at best.
Amen, Skeeter. I was looking for a polite way to advise against Rosebud.
The top of my list would probably be Avenues as well, given its proximity to the Peninsula. I鈥檇 also suggest Spiaggia, which is about 3-4 blocks North on Michigan. Along with Avenues and Charlie Trotters, this is one of only about six four-star restaurants in Chicago. I was there roughly two months ago, and without rambling on and on, I鈥檒l just say that every accolade it鈥檚 received is well-deserved.
To the kind and helpful Illinois/Chicago TA responses: Thank you very much for the excellent suggestions. We are glad to know that Avenues is worth exploring; it%26#39;s sometimes easy to overlook hotel restaurants. We have heard great things about Alinea, but the other suggestions sound quire interesting and we wouldn%26#39;t know about them without your help. Many, many thanks, truly, from Minnesota!
