Visitor Passes for kids?

I%26#39;m trying to decide if it%26#39;s worth it to buy an 11 yo. kid a Visitor Pass, or should we just pay the $1 child fare out of pocket each ride? Is it possible to pay with visitors cards and cash at the same time? Do I need and ID or permit for my kid to get this rate? Am I right that the 6 yo. and the 2 yo. ride for free? We will have 4 days in Chicago, so I would need to buy a 3-day or a 5-day Visitor pass.

If you use the CTA more than 4 times each day, then a Visitor Pass is a better deal for a child. You don%26#39;t need an ID or permit for your kid. Each station has a fare card vending machine. Just purchase the appropriate fare card if you end up using a cash fare. Yes, the 2 %26amp; 6 yr old ride for free.

I read that the Visitor%26#39;s Cards are only sold at certain places or stores. We%26#39;ll be staying at the Embassy Lakefront. Where would be the nearest place to get this Visitor%26#39;s cards? We would like to start with our touring plans as early in the morning as possible but will need to get those cards first.

The St. Clair option is not open on Sunday (when we%26#39;ll arrive), so it%26#39;s only the Navy Pier that%26#39;s left and looks a little far. The mail option is a little complicated for us, since we live out of the U.S., so I would need to send them to my brother%26#39;s house in Ohio and maybe he can send them to us.

I%26#39;m thinking another option. We%26#39;re staying overnight at the Hilton O%26#39;Hare due to a late arrival. I could go into the airport to buy the cards before we take a cab to the Embassy. The CTA website says there%26#39;s a vending machine at the Main Parking Garage, Lower Level. Is that near the Hilton? How can I get there? Is there anything tricky that I need to be aware when buying the cards from a vending machine? There%26#39;s also a currency exchange inside the Hilton that sells them, but again it%26#39;s not open on Sunday.

The only trick to buying the Visitor Passes from the vending machine is that the machine does not make change if you are paying with cash. Also, they sometimes run out of certain passes (usually the one-day passes). Sometimes, the credit card reader does not work and other times it can%26#39;t take cash. In spite of these warnings, they usually work well. They just are not 100% reliable. I would order them in advance if I were visiting from out of town. I also would order one for an 11-year-old, since the child will likely be traveling anywhere you are and will still need to pay a fare.

Another thing to remember is that the 3-day pass is valid for 72 hours from the time it is first inserted into a fare box. If you are just going to go back to the airport on your last day, it would make more sense to just pay for that separately rather than buying 5-day passes.
