Rockford Italian restaurants

What are the best Rockford Italian restaurants these days? It used to be Maria%26#39;s when I lived there over 30 years ago. Is Maria%26#39;s still good?

Yes! Maria%26#39;s is great!

I%26#39;m glad to hear it! Usually, we%26#39;re just in town to see my family, and we go to Giordano%26#39;s on the way out of town. I enjoy Giordano%26#39;s, but Maria%26#39;s was always my favorite. I went there from the time I was in junior high school. Just the thought of it brings back memories :-) It was the best! I always compare every Italian restaurant to Maria%26#39;s :-)

Where is Maria%26#39;s? I%26#39;m new to Rockford. Thanks!

Hubby just went there last night and was thoroughly impressed. He said that the neighborhood was a little rough but food was outstanding. It is in Rockford, WEST of the river, on Cunningham.

Hi secondrider,

Maria%26#39;s is in South Rockford. Here%26#39;s the address and phone number:

828 Cunningham St

Rockford, IL 61102

Phone: (815) 968-6781

I wouldn%26#39;t worry about security in the area. Rumor has it the feds watch the place especially the parking lot (if you know what I mean).

LINO';S!!!!!

Born and raised for 18 years up in good ol Rockford and can always remember going to Lino%26#39;s on E.State St.

I have gotten up to Rockford once to twice a year since moving down here just for some good pizza and those Beefaroo fries!

Actually coming up Labor day weekend to bring my grandparents down for a little while. Will be hitting Lino%26#39;s at 4:30 when they open.

The owner actually shared his special italian dressing for the salads with our family about 15 years ago.

Maria%26#39;s is okay.

Hi midgaboy,

Thanks! Now that you mention it, I have had Lino%26#39;s lasagna, and it was good :-) My sister-in-law got it for a party once, but we%26#39;ve never been there. Beefaroo -- my dad loves their burgers! I was born and raised in Rockford too, but haven%26#39;t lived there for years, and it%26#39;s changed so much. Next time we go, we%26#39;ll have to try Lino%26#39;s.

The last time we ate there the carpet under our table had an 18'; tear in it. The food%26#39;s ok but I always found it too noisy. We prefer John%26#39;s on 11th St but still haven%26#39;t found really good Italian food in Rockford. It all tastes as though it%26#39;s made for Rockford%26#39;s Swedes. No zing.

I love Sam%26#39;s pizza out on Riverside Blvd. - every time I go to Rockford I have to stop and have some. Awesome!

I still love Maria%26#39;s - and in answer to a previous post I know for a fact that the restaurant hires a deputy from the Winnebago Sheriff%26#39;s Dept. to patrol the parking lot because my friend%26#39;s husband used to do it part time to earn a little spending money. The neighborhood is rough but feel safe going there - they all watch out for you.

Jog up the hill by St. Anthony%26#39;s Church and there is a drive-in called Zammuto%26#39;s - the best Italian sausage poor boy sandwich and meatball sandwich in town! Top it off with a granita - italian ice - my favorite flavor....strawberry.
