How close is this hotel to Michigan? Navy Pier? Is this a good choice for a hotel downtown? Thanks

The AE is in the Gold Coast area. It%26#39;s a slight bit north and west of the Mag Mile area. An easy walk. It%26#39;s in more of a residential area than a touristy commercial area.
You are about 2 miles from Navy Pier.

The Hotel is in the very nice Gold Coast area just a few minutes walk North of the North Michigan Ave. area. It%26#39;s an easy walk from there to the Oak Street Beach (there is an underground tunnel at Division, across from the lakefront), and you can walk along the lakefront path all the way to Navy Pier. The hotel is on a residential street lined with gorgeous (in some cases historic) luxury apartments.
You also see the Oak Street Boutique shops (Barneys New York, for example) on the brief walk to Michigan Ave. If you walk about 15-20 minutes due North, you%26#39;re at the Lincoln Park Zoo. The Chicago Historical Society and the Old Town area (Second City) are also nearby the Zoo.
There are several restaurants nearby, including the Pancake House, which is a favorite for many for breakfast. That%26#39;s on E. Bellevue, near your hotel. The hotel also contains the very famous and historic Pump Room restaurant (http://www.pumproom.com/history.html) Outside the Pump Room entrance, there is a wall of signed photographs from some very big name stars who have visited throughout the years. The hotel itself was (and still is, although not as much with the 5* Four Seasons and the Peninsula nearby, among others) also a prime hotel for visiting celebs (some of the suites are named for celebs who have stayed there.)
There is also a subway station a few blocks away, which is a quick way to get to the museums downtown.
I enjoyed my stay at the Ambassador East, and I think it%26#39;s a nice hotel to be near Michigan Ave., but not right in the middle of the hustle and bustle.
It%26#39;s a pleasant walk from there to Navy Pier, I do it all the time. You have the option of walking through the Mag Mile area, or walking along the lake by heading to the beach.
Additionally, one of Frank Lloyd Wright%26#39;s early works, the Charnley-Perksey House (http://www.charnleyhouse.org/) is also a few blocks from the hotel.
You can see some additional history of the neighborhood here:
goldcoastneighbors.org/neighborhood/history.鈥?/a> It%26#39;s one of Chicago%26#39;s wealthiest areas.
An Edwardo%26#39;s Pizza is 1 block West of the hotel if you want to grab a pizza to take back.
