Is there a kid friendly restaurant near the Shedd Aquarium? (We have a 2 year old). Would it be best to go to the Navy Pier?
Thanks for any information!
Family friendly restaurant near the Shedd Aquarium?
There really aren%26#39;t any restaurants near the Shedd Aquarium. There are a food court and a restaurant inside the aquarium, though. The food court would probably be more kid-friendly. The restaurant is full-service and more adult-oriented (though people do take older children there).

There%26#39;s a Corner Bakery at the Field Museum. Very kid friendly. http://www.cornerbakerycafe.com/
The Field has a McDonald%26#39;s too.
But I don%26#39;t recall if you can access either of them without buying admission to the Field.
You do have to pay to get into the Field.
If you want to go to Navy Pier, you can take a trolley to Washington Street, then get off and take another one to Navy Pier. There are signs with colored symbols to tell you where they%26#39;re going.
Or, you could take the trolley from Shedd to Millennium Park. There%26#39;s outdoor seating, and then your child can play in the Crown Fountain!

Or you could take the Shoreline harbor water taxi from Museum Campus (docking just northwest of the Shedd) to Navy Pier.
Don%26#39;t know your dining budget...
There are limited options for dining immediately around/in the Shedd, most of which have been mentioned above, although there are hotdog vendors and the like usually right outside. However, there are a number of places, such as Yolk and the Bongo Room in the South Loop area, which would be about 1/2 mile away (on S. Michigan Avenue and the surrounding area, in the ';South Loop';).
If you were looking for an ice cream treat to tide you over until you get to another area, though, there are two Bobtail Ice Cream and Coffee locations in the pavilions immediately adjacent to Buckingham Fountain. This is a really nice walk (assuming that you have a stroller) along Monroe Harbor from the Shedd.
And Millennium Park is only a 5 minute walk (northwest) of Buckingham Fountain - and you have the Park Grill there, as well as other establishments right along S. Michigan Avenue.
NOTE: There is limited bench seating around Buckingham Fountain. During the busiest periods, you may have to stand to enjoy the fountain.
Thank you so much for all the great information!!
When our kids were younger we ate in the food court area of the Shedd during a winter visit. As I recall there were plenty of healthy choices and there was a nice view of the lake. We enjoyed our visit there, be sure to see the dolphin show!
