We are considering a trip to Chicago in late May. Will it be too cold to go the beach?
Chicago Beach - too cold in May?
No clue.
Seriously.
It has been great the past week, but it might get cold next week. It is might be 40 and it might be 90.
The beaches have been cleaned up from the winter, so they are ready.
Chicago Beach - too cold in May?
Last weekend it was probably in the mid 60s or lower 70s and people were on the beach in their swimwear....as skeeter said, if the weather cooperates the beaches are open. In fact, I think castaway%26#39;s (the bar) is set to open next Thursday.
The water will probably be pretty cold in May, even if the weather is fair (which is quite likely in late May). Really, some of the nicest days of the year are late May, early June. I don%26#39;t think the lake water ever gets very warm, though it%26#39;s less cold in July and August.
Thanks for the info, I thought it might be hard to tell. We weren%26#39;t planning on going in the water, but I thought it may be too cold and breezy to sit on the beach. I think I%26#39;ll just have to keep checking the weather. Thanks!!
It shouldn%26#39;t be too cold to go to the beach. I don%26#39;t believe the temperature will get very low at this point. Although you never know in Chicago, lol. Many people walk, walk their dogs, jog and sit on the beach around this time. I%26#39;m not one of them since I like the high 70s and up. lol
Beach - perhaps. As the others have said, if we%26#39;re talking May, one can never be sure about the weather. Water - no! even in June when the schools get out, it%26#39;s usually pretty cold. I have three kids who are up to getting in the water at that time of year, but I can tell you from 14 years of having to wade knee high - your lower legs go numb once you recover from the shock.
A lot of the beach things open on Memorial Weekend so if you go to a beach like North Avenue, it will be fun and lively anyway.
I guarantee it will be too cold to swim, no matter what the temperature.
check the weather beach is usually 5-10 cooler
