Right now I%26#39;m leaning towards staying at the Hampton Inn. I heard there is a firehouse right there. If I stay in a room away from traffic, will it still be very noisy. If so can you recommend alternate hotels in a nice neighborhood near public transportation and downtown.
Thanks.
Hotel question
Only very, very rarely have I read a review of the Hampton Inn that mentions the fire truck noise. I definitely wouldn%26#39;t worry about it. I%26#39;ve stayed at the Wyndham a couple of times now, which is next to a hospital, and didn%26#39;t hear anything. In a city hotel, you%26#39;re going to hear at least a *little* street noise in a lot of cases.
What I would do is call the hotel directly and ask for them to block a room for you away from the street. I really definitely do not think that would be too much to ask, even moreso since you%26#39;re booking directly through the hotel. The Hampton would be great in terms of location and breakfast, so I personally would still recommend going with that.
Hotel question
Let%26#39;s be honest: As somebody who lives in the general area, I do hear sirens. Sometimes they are a pain (2:00 a.m. and they are going down your street). If you stay at any of hotels in the Michigan Ave. area, you may well hear ambulance sirens, since Northwestern Hospital is right there. The location doesn%26#39;t really matter -- you will hear the noise at times. That%26#39;s life in the big city, and it is not a big deal.
