I so admire the tourists that figure their ';food/dining schedule';. Thought I%26#39;d give it a try.
Have written down names/reviews that interest me, have itinerary fairly organized but having trouble connecting the dots with location and Chicago area/parking, CTA,etc. Don%26#39;t have that great a map. Know about chicago transit site and parking
either Millennium Park or Sterling. HAVE used metromix and have read posts back through mid-April. Visit for 1 week basic sights.
WED: U of C, Robie House, Blue Man Group 2pm, Wrigley drive by. ? QUICK LUNCH?BITE
Fireworks, maybe FOX %26amp; OBEL picnic. Navy Pier best site for FW?
THU: Shedd Aquarium, Art Institute, Chicago Cultural Center, S Mich Ave and Grant Park Walking Tour, LUNCH/DINNER open
Grant Park Blues Festival ? dining vs picnic
FRI Museum of Science and Industry only need LUNCH this day, or buffet nearby.
SAT: AM busy, Chicago Walking Architecture Tour, DINNER open, possible Bike Sites at Nite if not raining.
SUN: Brunch spot found, Gold Coast Walk, maybe Drake Hotel high tea, DINNER open
MON: Oak Park FLW, Wicker/Bucktown area , PM CAF Art Deco tour at Happy Hour a possibility; see items below.
TUE: Adler Planetarium, Hancock Observatory and Signature Lounge, Field Museum, etc.
Restaurants I found interesting:
Breakfast:/Lunch: Orange, Sweet Thang, Cafe de Luca, Bongo Room, lunch, beer at PIECE PIZZERIA%26amp;BREWERY, all in Monday%26#39;s area?, Corner Bakery, Milk and Honey Cafe, Cereality.
LUNCH/DINNER:Frontera Grill or fresco, any idea why menu not posted after June 3? Heaven on Seven, Bice, Grand Luxe. Pizza probably go with Giordanos or Lou Malnati, Weber Grill, Boston Blackies. A friend rec. BANDERAS ,looks good off Grand and Michigan, also TIFFIN in Indiantown that looked rather north.
Staying South kind of near U of C in Crestwood, will have rental car, but comfortable walking or using L/metro, train.
Any input GREATLY APPRECIATED. Sorry note so long. Don%26#39;t care for seafood or sushi that much, have good BBQ and Mexican food in Texas, though Frontera looks good.
Restaurants and location attempt at ';DINING'; schedule
Does anyone have input into food places above or general location to above sights?
I did find Chicago Traveler site with maps of specific neighborhoods/sights so that helps.
Itinerary is packed, but we%26#39;ll pick each day from the options.
Thanks for any input!
Restaurants and location attempt at ';DINING'; schedule
Maybe try Cedars (www.eatcedars.com) for inexpensive lunch in Hyde Park on Wed or Friday.
For your Thursday lunch near Loop try Heaven on Seven (Wabash location). Way more character than dinner at the location off Michigan Ave.
Thumbs up to Bongo Room, pass on Cereality - it%26#39;s kind of unique but not worth the prices.
Second the recommendation for Cedars in Hyde Park, we%26#39;ve eaten there twice recently, excellent food and low prices. The cuisine is Lebanese, similar to Turkish food. Someone else will have to help you get the from MSI, we drive there, not close enough to walk. Another idea in the area is Dixie Kitchen for Southern/Cajun.
Bongo Room is a favorite of mine, huge portions but you can ask for a 1/2 order which is actually more like 2/3, I can%26#39;t even finish that. Either location is fine, you%26#39;re not too far from the Wabash location on Tuesday or Thursday when you go to the Adler or Field or Shedd, walkable.
Cereality%26#39;s concept escapes me, why pay for something you can do at home?
Frontera Grill%26#39;s menu changes from week to week, it%26#39;s not your typical Tex Mex and the restaurant is very highly regarded. Just be prepared for possible long waits, try the weekdays.
Heaven on Seven, try the original location on Wabash, you%26#39;ll be close to it when you are at the Cultural Center or shopping on State Street. I like it better than the other location on Rush.
Boston Blackies, Giordano%26#39;s, Lou Malnati%26#39;s all good. Lou%26#39;s and Giordano%26#39;s are totally different pizzas, one is stuffed, the other is deep dish so try both if you are a pizza lover.
your post is really hard to follow...you%26#39;d probably get more responses if you organized it better....
my thoughts
Breakfast:/Lunch:
Good
Orange, Bongo Room, Piece, Milk and Honey, Giordanos, Lou Malnati%26#39;s (I disgaree on them being two very different pizzas...it%26#39;s the same concept and unless you really love pizza you only need to go to one...see other postings for the difference...I would choose Pizzeria Uno/Due over Lou%26#39;s),
Blah-Nothing wrong witht he places, but nothing memorable
Cereality, Corner Bakery, Grand Luxe (The views can be memorable, but the food is not),
Never heard of and/or been to:
Frontera Grill (the reviews here are raving and it%26#39;s high on my list), Heaven On Seven (Many like it), Cafe De Luca, Bice, Banderas, Tiffin, Weber Grill (isn%26#39;t this a chain?), Boston Blackies
