Union Station to Midway Airport

Could someone PLEASE help me!!! I am going to Chicago for the first time %26amp; cant figure out the transportation system!!! I am arriving in Union Station and just need to get to Midway Airport. It%26#39;s only a few miles, I was thinking a cab, but from what I%26#39;ve read they%26#39;re all sharks and the rails/META??? are the way to go, but to me that is GREEK!! helppp!!! Please someone!!

I am coming in around 11:30AM and Just desprately Need to get to the airport. A helicoptor isn%26#39;t in the budget, so any other suggestion is GREATLY appreciated~

Union Station to Midway Airport

Take the orange line to Midaway coming out of Union Station you%26#39;ll walk East (toward the lake) on Adams or Jackson until you get to the tracks (they run overhead and are about a half mile). wAlk up to the platform and buy a ticket ask the attendant where the orange line is if you don%26#39;t understand the signs. All orange line trains will end up at Midway. it%26#39;ll take around 45 mins to an hour.

Alternatively you could get to Midway via cab in around a half hour at that time. Probably run you 30 bucks or less...

THANK YOU SOOOO Much! Do the cabs usually hang around there? Also to add into the mix I am going to have two young children and enough luggage for a month (seriously!-yes I have a death wish LOL) So I%26#39;m thinking the cab might be my best bet. But my thought is how hard are they to hail, and how far will I have to drag my montage%26#39; before I can find one? Are they difficult or are they pretty much sharks waiting in lull for that type of person?

The taxis are metered - just be sure the driver turns on the meter. You should include a tip of about 15%, and expect to pay extra for excess bags. You have to navigate some stairs to get to the cab stand, but there shouldn%26#39;t be much of a problem. Look for the Canal Street exit.

Walking to the Orange Line with lots of luggage and two little ones is too much trouble. You%26#39;ll have several busy streeets to cross, and stairs to climb.

Do they possibly have an elevator/Escalator? Or am I really going to be lugging these bags up stairs to the cab stand? (Oh yeah) I called today, one of the cab systems said if I called the day prior they would set me up with a specific cabbie (really nice! $25ish) which I thought was fair. But I%26#39;m REALLY worried about the stairs. I have a lot of back issues %26amp; can%26#39;t life a lot, so the elevator/escalator will be hevens sent. Are they something that that I might find? If so where might ';EYE SPY'; That one?? Thank you again to everyone!!! And I think I%26#39;ve already XXXX out the orange line with the Kidos, dog, and 225lbs of luggage (ok I%26#39;m kidding) but close to it. LOL Really Chicago, you%26#39;ll see me! LOL

Recall the guy plastered on the front of the SEMI in Lansing MI??Just see todays Lansing State Journal LSJ dot com, Yeah that will be me and the luggage.

The closest L station to Union Station is Quincy %26amp; Wells, but that one does not have elevators. (It%26#39;s been restored to its 1897 appearance, and in 1897 they didn%26#39;t have elevators.)

The next-closest station for the Orange Line is Washington %26amp; Wells, and that does have elevators.

Go to maps.google.com, mapquest.com, or equivalent, and print yourself a one-page map of the area. You can try this link :

Thank you Chip! I might have to try that then (worst case) I mean riding the %26#39;Orange%26#39;?? Line to Washington %26amp; Wells shouldnt be that bad (Should it???) Oh holy Toledo it%26#39;s going to be nightmare LOL

Pray for my survivial!!

%26lt;%26lt; riding the %26#39;Orange%26#39;?? Line to Washington %26amp; Wells shouldnt be that bad (Should it???) %26gt;%26gt;

Not bad at all. An easy walk. From Union Station you can walk right along the Chicago River (south branch) up to Washington Street, with the water on your right. Then cross the river: cross Wacker Drive, cross Franklin Street, and then arrive at Wells Street (where the L station is). A very pleasant walk, actually.

Chicago is all laid out as a grid, with streets going N-S and E-W. Very easy to negotiate.

Follow the signs to the Orange Line trains. Every Orange Line train goes to Midway, and they all have orange signs that say Midway. Don%26#39;t get on a Pink Line train (same platform), that goes elsewhere. The Brown and Purple lines are on the other platform.
