Parking for Taste of Chicago

We will be driving to Chicago from Ohio on Saturday June 30 to spend the afternoon at the Taste of Chicago and on the lakefront. I am wondering where the best place to park will be. I know there are underground garages at Grant Park and Millenium Park, but I suspect they get filled up fast and are a mess to get into and out of. Does anyone have any suggestions on the easiest place to park? We don%26#39;t mind walking from someplace like Soldier Field, the loop, or streeterville.

Thanks.

Weekends at The Taste are super-crazy. I would strongly suggest that you park somewhere outside of downtown and take a train in. Not only will parking be full, but it will be very slow-going to get out. The trains may be crowded, but at least they will be moving. Maybe parking at Midway and taking the Orange Line would work.

Leave your car in Indiana and take the train in. http://www.nictd.com/

Between the Dan Ryan construction and trying to park downtown, you won%26#39;t have a lot of fun once you get to the Taste.

I agree, leave your car at one of the south shore stations, or in Homewood at Metra. Indiana is probably your best bet though, you%26#39;d get off of the expressway before hitting most of the construction.

Or you might consider parking in Chinatown, you can either get street parking or the lots are relatively inexpensive and the red line el is right there. Unfortunately you still have to get through part of the Dan Ryan traffic to get there. So far I%26#39;ve not found it to be bad as a lot of people are avoiding it but I suspect that will change once summer gets here.

Actually, the Millennium Park garage never fills up, it%26#39;s huge. I%26#39;ve parked on the lowest level on some weekends, right by the Monroe St elevators, and have been practically the only car down there. Never had a problem for Taste or Blues Festival. For the Grant Park events it really i sthe most convenient option. Getting in and out is not a problem. Just too bad they jacked up the rates substantially this year.

Wow. I didn%26#39;t realize it would be that bad. Even if there was space in the Millenium garage, it sounds like we could be significantly delayed trying to get there. We are staying the night at a hotel near O%26#39;Hare. So taking the train from Indiana doesn%26#39;t do us much good. Plus I hate the infrequency of the Metra trains on the weekends. It looks like the train we would take only runs every two hours. I%26#39;m thinking our best bet might be to to directly to the hotel then take the blue line downtown. Is there any construction on the tri-state tollway that would cause significant delays?

Thanks.

There%26#39;s construction as you approach the ORD area.

Here%26#39;s a link that has the details. www.illinoistollway.com/portal/page鈥?/a>

Check the web site for updates as your date approaches.

I wouldn%26#39;t be afraid to drive into Chicago on a Saturday for the Taste. There may be some delays by O%26#39;Hare but it shouldn%26#39;t be horrible. And you definitely can get a parking space at Millennium Park. The Cubs have a home game at Noon, which could lead to some right-lane backups on I-90/94 near Irving and Addison, but nothing that should really impede traffic (especially if you get into the express lanes).
