Walking from Sears Tower to Hancock Building

Is it a safe area to walk? I hope so :-)

Also is it safe to walk from the Sears tower to the Buckingham Fountain

Thanks?

I think the biggest threat to walking in the downtown area is the cabbies. You have to get a good distance from downtown and the

tourist areas before you get to areas that would be questionable.

As with any large city, just be aware of who is around as pickpockets love crowds. If you decide do stop and admire the sights or check a map, please step out of the flow of traffic on the sidewalk.

From Sears to the Hancock Building is about 1.5 miles. If you follow Wacker Drive along the river, it can be very picturesque. For the fountain, walk along any east-west street to Grant Park. If you choose Adams Street, you can stop at the Rookery Building and Federal Plaza on your way.

The area is very safe.

I would not walk it at 2am.

But from 6am to 10ish pm is fine.

Here is a list of artwork around the loop.

on your way around you can stop by some of these

Word of advice:

Do some research yourself. Use google or yahoo maps. Zoom around on the maps. Get a lay of the land. How far places are. etc....

mangoo, agree that if you just take Wacker from the Sears Tower to N. Michigan Avenue, you%26#39;ll see a lot but it is a bit of a hike, so be prepared! Recommend that you walk on the west sidewalk from the Sears Tower north - follow the curve around and walk on the sidewalk on the north side of Wacker until you get to Michigan Avenue.

Another option for you: Depending on when you are coming, you could always take Shoreline%26#39;s River Taxi from the Sears Tower to Navy Pier first. Then take the free trolley back to N. Michigan Avenue from Navy Pier; then go to the John Hancock Building. Or walk to the John Hancock from Navy Pier - and the way I%26#39;d do that is to just take the Lakefront Path north-northwest from Navy Pier along East Michigan Avenue (we don%26#39;t mention this stretch enough) to the Oak Street Beach. At the Drake, you want to cross Oak Street, going south. The John Hancock Building is 1 block south.

Or, to get to Buckingham Fountain, if you take the River Taxi - at Navy Pier, take the Harbor Water Taxi to the Museum Campus and walk back to Buckingham Fountain along Monroe Harbor from there.

All very picturesque ways - just depends on how much you want to walk.

Thanks for all the useful information Citylights, gregdove, ChiTownfriend!

Now I can walk in peace ;-)

It%26#39;s a matter of ';Gosh, did I really type?'; Above, where I typed ';East Michigan Avenue'; - that really should be ';East Lake Shore Drive';.

Thanks for the correction ChiTownFriend!
