2 questions re Tommy Gun's Garage

Those who have experienced Tommy Gun%26#39;s Garage seem to like it or hate it. Do those living in Chicago think its good fun/value when they have visitors? Second question to those who have attended it,

is it ';smoky'; from special effects? Husband has lung problem so need to know.

This fashionable 鈥?and expensive 鈥?New American grill in the South Loop is set in a former Al Capone brewery that has been transformed by Jerry Kleiner鈥檚 signature metalwork, furnishings and lighting, surrounded by retro wallpaper patterns on steroids; its classic steakhouse fare is tweaked with modern preps and sauce options for the prime beef and paired with a wide-ranging wine list (in both style and price) that includes premium champagnes by the glass; N.B. French doors and a fanciful gate open to a vast landscaped garden getaway.

What does ';bump'; mean? I%26#39;m confused by response. I%26#39;m ready to cross this off my list and just have fun exploring Chicago along with fireworks and architecture cruise. Would like to do a manufacture tour if any available but haven%26#39;t located any info yet.

Tommy Gun%26#39;s is something I%26#39;ve never seen locals recommend, I%26#39;ve personally never been and have absolutely no interest. That%26#39;s not to say you wouldn%26#39;t enjoy it, some people obviously do.

There%26#39;s a lot of evening Chicago entertainment that I would recommend, Second City has two very good revues going on, Wicked is playing through at least November, Zanie%26#39;s has good stand up comedy plus several other more serious options such as the dramas playing at Steppenwolf, the Goodman or the Shakespeare Theater.

Forbidden Broadway just opened up and the Chicago Tribune critic loved it.

Thanks, we will do the cheesecake tour. Is there any way to find other offers? We will be in Chicago June 18 to 21, and our wish list is sketchy at this point: fireworks cruise on Wednesday, Art Institute Thursday night, architecture tour, tiffany glass, Field Museum and Museum of Science %26amp; Industry. Can shop in evening when other places close. Enjoying trip advisor and appreciate responses. Still don%26#39;t know what ';bump'; means. Anyone got a clue?

';Bump'; means that someone wanted this post to stay on top. Since new posts in the forum will push older posts off the front page, someone else looking for information on the subject might ';bump'; the post. Usually, in a forum such as this only the word ';bump'; will appear in the post. mj23 apparently decided to add information from Zagat Survey in an attempt to make his/her response informative as well as functional (the function being to keep the post on top). Also, someone whose post had fallen off the front page while waiting for a response might ';bump'; it themselves, although this might be considered rude.

wow, thanks for explaining ';bump';. Lots I don%26#39;t know (until I ask).

The Eli%26#39;s tour is fun and as far as I know the only one publically available in Chicagoland, too bad, as a kid I remember going to the Jay%26#39;s potato chip factory and thought it was fascinating. The only other ';factory tour'; I know of is up in Wisconsin, Jelly Belly in Pleasant Prairie. And it%26#39;s really more of a warehouse tour, I certainly wouldn%26#39;t make the trek up there to see that with your time frame.

Londonbound-TRIP, on Sundays at 3 p.m. Goose Island Brewery has a tour for $5 pp.

Another factory tour - assuming you have a car:

Long Grove Confectionery Co.

333 Lexington Drive, Buffalo Grove

888-459-3100 ext. 266

Open Monday through Thursday, 9, 10, 11, noon and 1 pm. The tour costs $2.00 per person.
