downtown irish pubs

First trip to Chicago and plan to take in a few irish clubs, looking for something that may have good entertainment with no cover charge in the downtown area. Maybe even local talent.

If you do a search for irish clubs on this forum, you%26#39;ll find numerous previous posts on the subject. Also search St. Patricks Day. You can also do the same type of search for blues clubs.

Kerryman at Clark + Superior is good. Same is true for Celtic Crossings on Clark just south of Chicago Avenue. I also like Johnny O%26#39;Hagan%26#39;s near Wrigley Field and Mrs. Murphy%26#39;s %26amp; Sons Irish Bistro (nice bar, too) on Lincoln near Byron, plus O%26#39;Donovan%26#39;s on West Irving Park Road.

Not sure that any of these really have any entertainment...my favorite is celtic crossings (River North) or Johnny Ohagans (Wrigleyville)...though I%26#39;ve only been to each a couple times, I%26#39;ve never been waited on by anyone that doesn%26#39;t have an irish accent. the beer selection is great and served properly. Johnny%26#39;s has great food and a nice outdoor patio.

Zagat came out with a guide to the top Irish pubs in the country and a few Chicago spots (of course!) were mentioned. thelocaltourist.com/blog/…

Of those listed, Fado has live music. On Friday %26amp; Saturday it%26#39;s a cover band that plays everything from Irish jigs to Stairway to Heaven. The others

I love the Red Lion on Lincoln. It is not exclusively Irish, actually -- it is English. Good food, good drink, lovely place to sit and talk. It is haunted upstairs. (Basically across the street from the Biograph Theater - where Dillenger got it!)

For the best scotch, McEwans Export, and the BEST fish and chips, try the Duke of Perth on Clark. This is not an Irish pub either...It is Scottish -- and you will love it. Lovely choice of drink, wonderful Leek Pie. Very comfortable and warm. Woodsy! Lots of Brit%26#39;s there. Cheers!

Have fun!!!
