Group of 4 women going (30+ and 40+) going for long weekend June 30 - July 1st. We have tried all the travel websites looking for nightlife, but it%26#39;s all too confusing. here%26#39;s what we want:
we are staying in the Rush/River North area. we want to dance. preferrably to 80%26#39;s, 90%26#39;s, pop and hip-hop. we are looking for a diverse crowd. not looking for college bars. we don%26#39;t want to wait 3 hours to get inside. we would like the clientele to be varied and attractive. please tell me we can find this???????
thanks!
Nightlife research is confusing.......
for a bar to cover that range of music you%26#39;re pretty much looking at a college scene, that being said Rush and Division supports fun for all ages...
Bootleggers has a wide range of people, but they%26#39;re average looking. Bar Chicago attracts a more attractive clientele, but seems to be younger. Both are the frat bar atmosphere....
Hangee Uppee is more 70s and 80s and a lot less of a frat house atmosphere.
You could check out the clubs....Sound Bar has a hip hop room but the other two rooms are mostly electronic. Excaliber might be a good choice, I%26#39;ve never been there but I think they have a huge diversity of music that varies by floor. word of warning...it%26#39;s a tourist club that a true Chicagoan wouldn%26#39;t be caught dead in...but I%26#39;m sure there are a ton of beautiful people and the suburbanites do hang out there.
Thanks for being so specific in your choices...most people just say ';I want a fun bar that plays music'; In a city like Chicago I could name 5000 bars that meet that criteria.
Nightlife research is confusing.......
That sounds fun. I think you should try Rockit - that is a really fun bar and you can eat there too! Upstairs are pool tables and good music. Also there are many other bars in that area so if you don%26#39;t like it you can walk right down the street to more bars. Check out division street also. I can also recommend Red Kiva which is fun.
thanks for the advice.......definately think excalibur is out.....not really looking for tourist and suburban (we%26#39;re suburban enough at home. ;-)! )
i%26#39;m leaning toward ghostbar, rockit and sound bar...
does anyone know what the friday and saturday night waits are like?
I would stay off Rush and Division, the bars there are old and smelly. Very young, ';spring break'; like crowd. Theres some nice places a little father norht in the Lincoln Park area, I%26#39;d try those.
Excalibur can be hit or miss.
It depends what time you go...Rockit has a wait probably after 10 or 1030. There are so many places. You will definitely find ';your'; crowd. What about Red Head Piano Bar...it gets crowded but, if you go early (9) to get a seat, its a lot of fun. Or, the dual pianos at Howl at the Moon...kinda more for bach parties tho. Head to the Viagra triangle. Can I recommend one place that does not have dancing tho? The views are unbelievable, outside and the yachts pull up...Flatwater on Clark Street and Wacker (on the north side of the river). Just have the cab drop you off..you%26#39;ll like it. Dinner too!
';Head to the Viagra triangle';
I%26#39;ve heard this term before. I%26#39;m guessing we are talking about clubs/bars frequented by an older crowd. I have few questions though:
Where is this area at?
How old are we talking here?
It%26#39;s Rush/ State/ Maple. Try to go to Avenue M or Y Bar, you%26#39;ll see a lot of an attractive people over there. La Passage is not bad too.
Rockit doesn%26#39;t have any dancing....they usually have a DJ spinning though. Sound bar has two floors of electronic music and one floor with more urban. I%26#39;ve never had more than a 20 min wait at soundbar but we get there around 11 or 11:30 usually.
You might want to check out Mickey%26#39;s too...the crowd might be a bit young but the crowd is attractive. I%26#39;m also a big fan of Elm St. Liquors, but again, no dancing.
