Oak Brook vs O'Hare

We arrive in O%26#39;hare this Friday AM and want to spend Fri/Sat/Sun exploring the city before heading to Oak Brook for my business meeting. I would like to avoid renting a car and am trying to decide whether we should just stay in Oak Brook and commute to the city daily, or stay in a hotel near O%26#39;hare and commute from there. From reading the posts I am leaning towards O%26#39;hare since the hotels are reasonable and it seems like an easier commute into the city. Any suggestions? We are also open to staying in any neighborhood that would give us an easy train ride.

Thank you.

It%26#39;s an easier commute downtown from Rosemont (ORD) than Oakbrook. The CTA blue line train will work for you from there. Transitchicago.com for details. A CTA visitor pass might come in handy.

If you stay in Oakbrook, the closest train station is in Hinsdale. http://metrarail.com/Sched/bn/bn.shtml. That will involve a cab or hotel shuttle ride to/from the train. A bit more inconvenient.

thank you Dave148. Would you have any recommendations for a hotel near O%26#39;hare in the %26lt;$140 price range? Would I need to actually go to the O%26#39;hare airport to catch the train? Or is there a station within walking distance of the hotels?.

Thank you.

Expedia shows availability for the Renaissance O%26#39;hare at $179/night. I know that%26#39;s a little more than you wanted, but it%26#39;s a really nice hotel wilthin walking distance of the Cumberland Blue Line stop. The station is virtually on the other side of the hotel parking lot.

The closest hotel to ORD is the Ohare Hilton. It%26#39;s across the driveway from baggage claim. Most hotels in Rosemont are within walking distance to the River Road (Rosemont) CTA blue line station. It%26#39;s the first stop out of ORD.

Hotwire is showing a bunch of availabliltiy in your price range. The hotels have free shuttles to ORD.

Sofitel Rosemont and Westin Rosemont on River Road are also good choices. I believe the Hyatt Rosemont has just completed a major renovation, so it is probably nice, too. Easy walk to Rosemont station on the blue line (hotel shuttles usually will take you there, too, if you%26#39;d prefer).

Thank you all for your input and suggestions. I really appreciate all the information you contribute to this website! I will try Hotwire and see what I get in O%26#39;hare. I will also read the Forums to get all the train information and tips on where to go and what to do in Chicago %26amp; Oakbrook as this is my first trip to Chicago.

Thank you again for your help!

What about the Marriott on Higgins? Isn%26#39;t that a short walk to the EL?
