Roadtrip to LA from Chicago

Anyone done the trip? My friend and I will be driving to UCSB in September and want to spend a week or so driving and exploring. We are both 23 and would love to find some funky, interesting spots along the way!

Any recommendations???

Thanks!!!

Roadtrip to LA from Chicago

My husband and I are Route 66 nuts and we have driven between Chicago and LA several times. I agree, go to route 66 site and start there. There are lots of great books you can check. Barnes and Noble usually has a pretty good selection, but the best ones can be found at little stops along the way on Route 66. If you are in LA, head up toward Barstow and there are a lot of Route 66 spots there. Get yourself some good info before heading across the Mojave! After you get to Needles, make sure you head towards Oatman (old mining ghost town) you will surely find some interesting spots there. Give a mule a carrot for me and a kiss on the head! Head to Kingman from there. It is a HUGE route 66 town. You will be able to find all sorts of stuff there. Great new museum in town too. You get the jist. There are plenty of sites out there and LOADS of them on Route 66 between Chicago and LA. Have fun, dont be afraid to ask questions. The guy sitting next to you drinking coffee at the counter might be an author!
